Lately in Chicago and outlying suburbs i have never seen so many Truck Accidents. My question is, Why are you hiring people that Cannot drive a Truck. Every day on the Interstate I 294, I 80 - 94. The latest one on I 80 - 94, Indiana, near I 49, driver killed construction worker, hit his vehicle sitting on the side of the road. Putting a person on the road, never drove a truck before, but has his or her CDL from a driving school, 6 weeks of schooling and turn them loose on the interstates, with road rage tactics in mind. No experience, driving a Truck doing over 70 mph. Totally wrong. What are you thinking?

They think about dollars. Nothing else matters to them.

I think all they care about is money also. Did anyone see lots of truck driver going home for covid19 or sitting at truck stop for 14 days. No, that because nobody want to hear a driver is tired or not feeling 100%. They want the freight moved. They want the cheapest price vs paying for a driver that has more experience and talking care of that driver. They just run you into the ground till you quit and then hire another new driver.. When their is an accident everyone is shocked and can't believe what happens or how it happened.

I worked for Mega trucking company before and they said it cost them 3 cents per mile out of every drop vers pay to cover or pay for all the accidents in one year. They hired new drives, so they paid less then average. So they save probably 10 cents per mile in driver pay because they basically hire only new drivers vs paying 10-15 cents per mile for driver with experience. It they pay 3 cents per mile to cover all the accidents. They save or make 12-7 cents per mile for all 6,000 trucks every year. That's a millions of dollars. If every truck moves 115,000 miles per year and they keep that extra 7 cents per mile. That's $48,300,000 in pure profit just from hiring new drivers vs paying for experienced drives and all the accidents are paid for.

I'm not saying it the right thing to do but I bet it how the people running the Mega trucking company think.

Businesses doing things to make the most profit they can, that’s an interesting concept.

There’s been attempts over the years for minimum training standards and when it comes up the ATA gets it shut down.

I think Chicago area is like the trucking Hull of America. Theirs more trucks on the highways in that part of the country. Come down to the south. Trucks still dominate the roads but aren’t near s many crashes as I hear about up north.

Studies show that different speed limits for trucks, buses and cars contribute to more accidents also.

The sleep study/cpap racket is taking a lot of experienced great drivers off of the roads these days too. Guys are retiring from driving the big boys and giving up cdl’s way to soon in their 30’s and 40’s because they are being required to use a cpap to keep license. Personal GP’s saying we don’t need it. Dot certified med examiners saying we do.
I believe that future drivers are only gonna have a career “life cycle” of 10 years and than be forced out on a sleep study to be replaced by younger people so no one will ever truely have experience in the future.

It reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode were Burgess Merideth has been deemed obsolete by the fascist government and sentenced to execution because no body reads books and they don't need librarians any more.

NO the sleep study is helping drivers with sleep apena awake and safe. It is a issue that also helps the driver live longer as it helps fight heart disease and other ailments. If you only knew how many drivers use cpap machines you would be surprised.

Nope. Not suprised. Truck driving is the only job in the country that is requiring it to stay employed. Whether you need it or not it is becoming part of the uniform along with flip flops. Even 10 hr. day home on weekends local drivers are going through this crap. 25 year old kids in dump and mixer trucks being told they need Cpap to do their jobs.
