    Question...I am unfortunately a NYS resident right now, and have plans on moving to Florida in a few years....However, I would like to switch my license over to FL now if possible...I know people who live in motor homes do this....I also would like to add Hazmat as well...Is this possible ? Does Florida have a time frame or something where you must reside there before you can get a Hazmat there ?
    Thanks, BT

    I just checked on moving my Michigan cdl and adding a hazmat to change it to Florida right before the covid went down .

    No big deal at all Pay your 80 bucks to have your background check for hazmat. When you acquire that than go to DMV to get you cdl for like another $80.

    You have to have an address with a bill going to it or a lease agreement to show you have a residence in Florida to obtain the license.

    Florida is easy to get along with. I have all my vehicles registered and insured in Florida and still have a Michugan drivers license.

    On the fence about moving my license right now In case I do something up in Michigan like drive for a farm harvest in the fall while I am up there this summer

    Many Florida residents live in motor homes, travel trailers, mobile homes.
    Easy enough. Florida is the most reasonable state for truckers to get cdl and endorsements.
    @tommymonza nailed it for you.

    I'm a little confused.....Do you do your hazmat background check in Florida or your current state ? I have yet to even test out for hazmat yet

    I currently do not have a hazmat Michigan wanted me to go down to the police department to get my background check done.

    Florida does your back ground check at the dmv but you have to wait 2 weeks for the results from what I understood.

    Than once you have the designation go into the dmv for your cdl

    As a fifth generation Floridian,
    The Hazmat and tanker endorsement is done as a background check. As far as I know the hazmat check is both state and federal, including fingerprints.
    The CDL license is still a test. I’m not sure if a road test is done for a current holder.
    But, you need a physical address or domicile that you can claim as a residence. I don’t think a travel trailer will work unless you own or rent the lot (long term) that it is on.
