So was the van guy taking his 30 on the shoulder and tried to pull out causing the TMC to lock it up and lose his entire load?
Kind of hard to make sense of that but that slinky securement always makes me wonder. Now I know. -
When will they start cracking down on parking on the shoulder for anything except mechanical failure?
This is just before an exit with a truck stop, if I’m not mistaken. -
But here, the problem wasn't him being in the breakdown lane, it was his pulling back onto the highway. -
Had the ‘truck moving on shoulder’ been using an on ramp - chances of collision are far less. -
This brings up something I've had an issue with once and it scared the #### out of me.
I see this truck ahead putting his left blinker on to get back onto the interstate. No big deal, no time to ##### at him on the CB, just move over and let him in. Well I put my left blinker on to get ready to move over and a 4 wheeler was sitting on my acc bumper. I couldn't move over. Well the trucker decides that because I put my blinker on I must be moving and on he comes. I'm barreling at him at 70mph my collision avoidance system clocks him at 12 and things look bad real fast. I slam on my brakes and almost kill the 4 wheeler driver with my front bumper moving over to avoid hitting the trucker.
I can promise that 4 wheeler driver had to change his panties when that was over. I've seen incidents similar to mine with other drivers having to swerve. Some have said some things on the CB after passing that wouldn't be repeated during a church sermon. These truckers need to realize when you get back into the interstate the 70mph traffic doesn't magically levitate over you. You have to get back on safely or you can cause a massive accident behind you.
What I do is if I'm heavy I'll put my flashers on and accelerate on the shoulder up to 35-40 or so. Then put my left blinker on and start looking to get back on. Of course I'll only do that when the shoulder is clear and I can see ahead of me enough to safely do that. I find that much safer than getting in the right lane at 8mph on an interstate with a truck at 79500 lbs. If traffic is just too much I'll crawl on the shoulder with flashers on until I get to the next exit and then use the next on ramp to get on.
Better yet I just don't stop on the interstate at all unless I have a catastrophic mechanical failure.Last edited: Jun 5, 2020

I see more Trucks, stopping on the shoulder, these days, even lights out, no triangles, obviously sleeping.I wonder how much of it’s because of the 14 hr rule. Can’t lose no time!!! Gotta go!!! Gotta stop!!! Gotta go!!!

I've never had a problem with hitting the buffoon taking his break on the side of the road (when he actually gets off the road), only when the same buffoon decides that he can't wait and wants to merge into 55+mph traffic with no room for anybody to get out of the way is there a major problem.
The cops in Indiana/Illinois should be giving those idiots the tickets and stop worrying about trucks trying to get through their 55mph speed trap because the moving traffic isn't what's causing the accidents.Bud A., D.Tibbitt, blairandgretchen and 2 others Thank this. -
What a mess. Sounds more like the one on the highway didnt want to yeild to the one trying to get off the shoulder.
