:biggrin_25518: Again, what's the big mystery. That is the most boring stretch I think I've ever driven, and until vehicles are guided by a groove in the road( like slot cars) and human beings are in control( or not), this will continue to go on. This is Sherlock Holmes, saying, cheerio, old chap,,

Few month ago I drove from West Memphis To Little Rock on I40, after passing 5 trucks on a shoulder in 4 miles, I decide to count..
I passed 34 trucks in total , that almost 1 truck every 5 miles...
Now unless broken down truck have triangles and repair truck behind, i don't care...

Unfortunately everyone has a different definition of an emergency bad enough to qualify going onto the shoulder.
In the not too distant past it was mostly a mechanical failure that was would immobilize the vehicle.
Now, many companies are so "proactive" with their electronic surveillance of their know nothing drivers, it is buried into their head "stop and call us, we will make the decision. " And that inevitably extends into pure operational decisions, when are you going to be there, how heavy are you etc, responses that require a stop to respond, since it has rightly been buried into everyone's head not to text and drive. So I will just stop right here, maybe even put on the flashers, I will only be here for a minute or two. Then pull onto the highway and cause all sorts of mayhem with traffic conflicts.

The real problem is lack of good judgement, combined with real or imagined time constraints. It will not get better.

Well they just came through the most dangerous stretch of Interstate, in the Country. From the State line to exit 15. No Trucks allowed in left lane, It’s always a mess, especially from exit 5 to 15. It amazes Me, how many Drivers, even Truckdrivers, that can’t merge safely. Many expect another Truck to move over for them, when there’s no reason to, they’ve got plenty room, yet they panic.

Some of the drivers have a “car mentality”. That is to say, they think they can pull immediately into a travel lane from the shoulder and expect traffic to either yield to them or move over and it doesn’t work like that.
Even when I first got a drivers license I was always taught to get up to a safe speed first on the shoulder and then merge into the travel lane with caution (using turn signals and 4 ways,of course)
    a.k.a. a rolling start.

But have you ever seen how drivers drive in other countries? Have you actually looked at some of the drivers up around the Chicago area? Haha.

Those slinkies went thru the cab and killed him I would assume. Slinkies are a dangerous load , according to securement instructor.
