Am I shooting myself in the foot by buying a truck that isn't allowed in California?

As far as I know the only hard restrictions are that it has to work with an ELD and it has to pass a Landstar inspection. There are a couple of other picky things like fifth wheel height and a p-side fender mirror, but those can be dealt with.

They will ask for a picture of your engine emissions sticker, so if it's faded out go ahead and order a new one from the dealer right away. It takes a while to get one. I had to order one from Freightliner for the truck I bought in March. Cost me $56. Took the dealership a week just to figure out how to order one from Detroit, then a week to get it.

What's the age limit for electronic motor trucks at Landstar?

There is no age limit but you need to pass inspection and be able to run a eld.

What's this about the passenger side mirror requirement? So If I decide to get a 379, they will require me to add a p-side fender mirror? That would look awful. My plastic garbage looks fine with it now, but would drive me crazy on the truck I want.

Yeah. You need a passenger side fender mirror. I have seen Landstar trucks without them. I presume they put them on and then took them off after inspection. Don't know how that would affect you if you got in an accident though. I wouldn't worry about how it looks. I would worry about how it earns. I think they still will lend you a mirror if you don't have one.
