I was with this company just shy of a year with no service failures, no accidents not even a scratch on the truck. I have over 30 yrs of driving experience and in the neighborhood of 3.5 million accident free miles. I was fired recently for failing to answer a text and or phone call! They use your personal phone for loads etc even though you have a EROAD in your truck. It was that simple, just not answering a text and phone call while I was operating the truck down the highway. I've been with big name companies in the past and even if you have a service failure they write you up or reprimand you but for something as not picking up a phone is a petty excuse to me. I had dropped my trailer in the yard and was heading home 28 mi away when this accured. Drivers came and went while I was there and I couldn't understand why. I got my answer as to why that happens. It's a small 20 truck company and the owner is a control freak, so I would stay away from this company if I were you. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing half the time. I found them to be very unorganized compared to other companies that I have driven for. I ran the Northeast exclusively and wasn't appreciated the least. All drivers are aware of how hard it is to find a driver who will religiously run that area of the country. Drivers you can find a better company to drive for. Trust me, I already have

i can recall only ONCE giving my cell number to an employer to reach me, in case of an emergency, at the house..

i was never contacted as there were no emergencies. that owner needs to respect a persons private line and use the company phone, period.

but control freaks are like this, thinking you are thier property 24/7/365

    screw him.

I forgot to ad, I was never given an opportunity to explain why I hadn't answered the text and phone call as I was driving home. When I did call this owner, he was already threatening to call the local police and report the truck stolen etc! It was utterly crazy and I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I felt afterwards that he didn't get the pleasure of firing me at the terminal which would have left me without a vehicle and a way of cleaning out my truck. I'm very disappointed with this company and never done anything to deserve this kind of treatment! This is a guy who thinks drivers are a dime a dozen. I hope he finds out different some day

Agreed. Even the small truck operations aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
If the company was willing to fire you over something as trivial as a missed phone call then maybe that was a sign to head to much greener pastures.

Youre way nicer than I am. I would have just hung up and parked his truck as soon as he said that. Let him worry about getting it back. Firing you and what, he expected his truck brought right back to him?

Very interesting. I’ve seen the add on Craigslist for awhile now. It sounded really good. But that’s a red flag for me. A small company that sounds that good, do they really need to advertise.
