Because we, as an industry, have proven we can't handle the responsibility. You, me, the average TTR reader sure it will be no problem. The average driver though... Well we have decades of stats to show that the average driver can't be trusted.

Again its going way off topic so this is my last post unless it's back on topic.

Cool beans on the 150mi short haul. Almost all our freight is right on that threshold on odometer miles.

Which is even better if you take into account it's air miles. So it would be a 172.6 mile radius from your starting location.
Although keep in mind you are still limited to 14 hours, which is also a jump from the previous 12 hours.

I know I just plugged in the map from our yard. 150 takes us down to Philly, up to Rochester and Springfield mass. Not too big a change since we're still on paper.

The new highway bill the house is working on has a provision to stop the FMCSA from implementing these new HOS. They want the feds to prove scientifically that the new hos are safe. I don't think it will pass as written but there still is the threat of legal action by the safety nazis to stop these changes. Time will tell.

Riddle me this though. Does the 8 and 2 or 7amd 3 whatever you completely reset your driving time and 14 though? If I remember right the way it is now 8/2 only gives you back what you didn't drive of the 11.

I am on Canadian rules way more than American and never really had much cause to use that split sleeper so I'm a little sketchy on that part of it.

But if the eld hos laws prevent drivers from driving tired (forces them to act RESPONSIBLY) why do they keep falling asleep at wheel like this?
If this video doesn't convince you to pull over when you're tired, nothing will

Split works same as before regarding 11/14. The differences are; any combination between 7/3 and 8/2 (doesn't have to be on the exact hour), and the lesser break also stops the clock (unlike before).

As before, it does not reset the 11/14, only a full 10 or reset does that.

The problem is that rescheduling delivery causes the driver to lose money. Because the next delivery appointment may be days away, and most drivers aren't paid to wait. And it messes up the preplan for the remainder of the work week.

Again, none of that has to do with HOS and running tired. It's an issue yes, but not an HOS or running tired issue.
It's a lack of pay issue that needs to be addressed.
