I am going to be blunt and honest with you. If you are asking a question like that, you are NOT ready to be an O/O

Search DMV IRP office + your state.

It is not a cheap plate.

You'll need a contract from the company you will sign on with before you can get the tag.

He may be referring to the DMV/ apportionment office’s being closed because of the corona virus?
My friend here in NY tried to license a tractor he just bought but the apportionment office is still closed.
He contacted the local commercial state police enforcement officer about his quandary and was told: #1 MAKE SURE ITS INSURED CORRECTLY
#2 take the plates off your other truck
put them on and roll on till the offices open again

Don't take a plate off another truck, it is a sure way to get an OOS and the plate taken.

Put the title or registration in the window, keep track of the miles and be prepare to pay for the road taxes.

The plates from the old truck are destined to be put on the new Truck anyway.
This was direct advise from NYS police commercial enforcement.
The officer also gave him his phone number if he ran in to any enforcement issues for registration in any other jurisdictions.
He already has Insurance an IFTA account and a HUT account so at the end of the day not really a big deal during this COVID BS.

Most, if not all, government offices, including DMV's, in New Yuck are still closed. The bigger question should be why?
