The issue is oil pressure, not a specific RPM. My fast idle is set at 700. The higher you idle it the more fuel it will use.

Freightliner has a system called Optimized Idle. It will monitor the engine oil temperature, battery volts and sleeper temperature. When needed it will start the engine to charged the batteries or maintain sleeper temperature or engine oil temperature. My truck has that plus it has this extra electric a/c from Freightliner and 4 more extra batteries. Plus a bigger alternator. So I have 8 batteries on my truck. 4 are in standard location driver side. Then 4 more are behind sleeper between frame rails.. I have not figured out if all 8 are hooked together or if the 4 behind sleep are just being used to run a/cfarmerjohn64, Crude Truckin' and tommymonza Thank this. -
Westerns policy is above 74 and below 36. They’ll idle for maybe 15 minutes outside those temps.
If you buy a inverter and they find it during a PM they’ll toss it.
Many trucks were never checked to see what their programming was when received from the factory. So it may infinity idle, or shut off after 5 min.
Western doesn’t care if you freeze or cook. Your DM can help you get the truck set up. If you’re truck will idle all night say nothing about it.bzinger and farmerjohn64 Thank this. -
I see lots of mega trucks idling all the time. I think the reason why their policies say no idling is because they want to keep their fuel expenses down and because some state laws prohibit idling more than 5 minutes.

In my truck, I need to set the cruise control to keep my truck from turning off after 5 minutes. With the cruise control on, the engine idles at 900 RPM.
Edit—
There might be a way to change the RPM idling speed on the DD15. Document below.Attached Files:

Any idling will kill new euro 4 engines because they're not producing enough heat to cook off the DPF and even with parked regens it's not doing any favors to the engine. People wonder why these new motors don't last 500,000 miles and it's due to excessive idling with engine designs that self destruct from it.
