Any body familiar with this. Engine cranks with zero oil pressure. No start. Seems to do a little with ether.

@Heavyd
I believe those engines are a HEUI fuel system. Oil pressure is needed to actuate the injectors. My starting point would be to verify if there is oil pressure while cranking with a mechanical test gauge. I'm not familiar enough with those engines to know if a faulty pressure sensor/wiring would be enough to cause a no-start condition. Heavyd is the guru with this stuff. Tagged him for you so hopefully he comes by to assist.Heavyd, BoxCarKidd and B77 Thank this. -
I am hoping he gives his opinion on this one yes. Truck is at a shop now where they have no clue what to do.

You can test main line the same as any old engine.
That oil pressure also feeds the HEUI pump. No primary no HEUI oil pressure.
You can get some self education from HeavyD at the top right search block. YouTube Hoglund Bus, Diesel Ron and others. Some are the 6.0 V8's and such but it is the same system. Also how to read fault codes using your cruise buttons.
If they have no glue you are probably better off to tow it somewhere else.Last edited: Jun 24, 2020
B77 Thanks this. -
I am about to give up on the truck only cost money and not going anywhere. I know how to get the codes.

Install a mechanical oil pressure gauge where the air compressor oil supply is and see if you have base oil pressure or not. Do you have any Navistar engine diagnostic software?
B77 Thanks this. -
Could try that. The oil pressure gauge in the truck stays on zero. Laptop was on it. But I don’t think it was the right one. Only gave out a few brake controller codes. I have more codes on the dash

Mine will read base oil pressure and injector control pressure while cranking. Injector faults and such. That is about the bare minimum to work on these.
Do the dash gauges function while the starter is engaged anyway? I do not know. Wire connector failures on the ICP and IPR units is common.QUALITYTRUCK and AModelCat Thank this. -
Hopefully monday the dealer put the laptop on it. After 2 other mechanics promised golden mountains. Truck still sitting
