So I have no firm details as of this post...what I do have is a friend (who owns her own brokerage) her father (who has is own authority and 5 or so trucks and trailers) doesn't want to take on another driver, but is offering me to lease a truck/trailer and run under his company, but under my own insurance, dispatching myself, with access to his load board and his daughters company. I would love to hear input about fair terms. This is something I wanted, but was honestly looking for a company gig, and now find myself blindsided and wanting some seasoned opinions on a fair contract. Weekly lease payments, maintenance responsibilities(fluids, tires, breakdowns, towing, major repairs) fuel program. I'm stoked about this opportunity, and I really doubt they would rip me off, but....l am interested in what all of you have to say.

Just go get a company job like you were going too.
Don't waste your time with that garbage.
He just wants you to pay all his bills, while
He keeps ownership of the truck.TexasKGB, gentleroger, JolliRoger and 5 others Thank this. -

First of all, insurance follows authority. You can not have your own, except bobtail/non trucking. But he can ask you to pay for it. My take is if they cant afford insurance, you cant afford to work for them.
Second, what's the separation agreement? Can you take the truck elsewhere and continue to make payments?
Ask for a list of what they are providing for the percentage they collect.
I would answer these before worrying about anything else.JolliRoger, Doealex, not4hire and 1 other person Thank this. -
Oh, I'd be SUPER careful with that. I've had several jobs with "friends" and not a one worked out. They all ended up F'you, F'you too.

I would never go into any kind of business with a friend unless I didn't care if that friendship ended badly. Family either.

Don't use lease and friend in one sentence.
JolliRoger Thanks this.
