“This is the paradox of always being afraid: while the pangs of apprehension and self-consciousness may allow you to imagine yourself as a being created of finer materials than most, a certain level of such agony necessarily drives you to grovel for the reassurances and approval of swine, or dwarfs if you like, who function as conductors of a fear from which they themselves do not appear to suffer.”

“And how well they’re able to control this fear, turning it in your direction at will and causing its dreadful current to flow just long enough to send you running to them so that you may be allowed to make a case for your own swinehood, hoping to prove that you are an even bigger swine, or a smaller dwarf, than they. This is the only thing that can bring some relief from that most pernicious form of being afraid – the anxiety provoked by other people and what they may do to you, either collectively or as individual agents.”

If you don't have some money put aside for transition to your next job it is a lot easier for dispatch to bully you.
This guy does have some great videos.

I learned back in driving school to always have an out. That applies to your job as well. Never get yourself into a postion were you have to take the boot on your kneck.

I think it’s just important to have savings in general. Especially, working in this industry. You don’t want to take ANY trucking job. Sometimes it might take few weeks to get hired and approved by the company.

    1) Many years ago, I learned the HARD way to always have emergency money put aside, not only for medical emergencies, but also for unexpected layoffs and terminations.
    2) For many years, when the taking was good and the economy was much better, I made it a point to work as much overtime as possible to set aside extra money, not only for the usual retirement savings, (IRA's & insurance annuities premiums for retirement), but also for everyday living expenses and rent.
    3) In my younger years, when I didn't have a full time job, I would work 2 part-time jobs, totaling between 55 to 70 hours a week.
    4) If I were to get laid off or terminated from my job tomorrow, I do have between 1 to 1.5 years worth of BOTH take home pay and rent money put aside.
    5) I also made it a point to get my car FULLY paid off, car insurance paid off, (FULL coverage), along with having car repair funds set aside.
    6) While it took quite awhile to accomplish BOTH #4 and #5, it REALLY takes a LOT of stress off of one's shoulders.

    NOTE:
    1)
After having done all this, this has left very little room for entertainment & fun. HOWEVER, I do NOT want to go hungry or homeless. In fact I would NEVER wish hunger, homelessness, or unemployment on anybody.
    2) What has also helped me to achieve this is that I have never married & never had any children. I could NEVER afford to do so, due to having earned wages ranging from minimum wage to lower middle income wages, (due to overtime). TRUTHFULLY speaking, I only have myself to blame for this. Due to sheer stupidity in my younger years, I put myself into this situation.
    3) What little gambling & drinking that I did, I gave up many years ago. Not only did it save me money, it kept me out of trouble with the law. I TOTALLY stay out of ALL bars, clubs, pool halls, pubs, saloons, & taverns. I don't even drink wine at holidays anymore. My tolerance for alcohol is NIL. I CANNOT afford to get into trouble at all, should I get drunk, either financially or legally.
    4) I have had intimate liaisons with the ladies a total of 9 times in my life. By the GRACE OF GOD, no children ever came about. I actually checked to be absolutely sure of this. This was back in 1995, about 25 years ago. FORTUNATELY & THANKFULLY, I did NOT have to worry about child support payments. Also, FORTUNATELY & THANKFULLY, I have NEVER contracted HIV, venereal diseases, or any sexually transmitted diseases at all.
    5) Also, I have NOT gone to a massage parlor or strip joint since 1995, about 25 years ago. Not only is this financially costly, but it way too easy to get into trouble with the law.
5a) The last time I went to a strip joint, I came very close to being arrested by the police. What saved me is that I was exiting the parking lot, as the police were entering the parking lot, of the strip joint that I was in. To this day, I thank the good Lord upstairs.
5b) A few days later, there was a newspaper article concerning the strip joint that I was in. A whole bunch of the employees and patrons were arrested for drugs, prostitution, illegal paraphernalia & contraband, along with a whole slew of other charges.
5c) This all took place in 1995, in Wichita KS. To this day, I have NEVER stepped inside of a strip joint or massage parlor.

    The bottom line is this:
    1)
Everybody, especially if one is poor to lower middle income, should BOTH watch his or her money carefully, and work hard to stay out of trouble with the law.
    2) What ever your circumstances are, PLEASE do NOT sacrifice your health, freedom, or your privacy. Those are 3 priceless treasures that go hand in hand.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
