Hi,
What’s your favorite tie down methods? I’m looking for a new way that’s fast, but also safe; the current one I use is kinda slow and I’ve seen a few other guys do their winches, but as a newbie I can’t determine if they were as safe as they were fast.
P.S. If you care to read how I do mine, then I’ll explain here since I can’t seem to upload any videos. I start by pulling mine through the rub rail, through the front of the slot, rotate the winch until it comes back around, pull out a little slack, fold it until there’s about 3 feet left, tuck the folded part behind the strap/rub rail, (kinda hard to explain this next part) pull down on the part of the strap that’s over on top of the winch until it touches the other part of the strap that I left hanging (that 3 feet I was talking about) and then tighten. A WE trainer showed me this and as you can probably tell it takes a bit of time, just trying to up my game a little.
Best regards, John

i do the same thing except after running it thru rub rail and then thru winch slot . i pull the strap all the way thru the winch and fold the excess and tuck it up between strap and rub rail.... whichever way u find works for u . is fine. i see guys do it differently... as long as freight is tied down and secure. it dont matter how excesss gets folded up

I never kept straps on the trailer and I also had about 10 or so that I cut to 14 feet. Saves time. You can cut to any length.
also you can mark lines on your straps at 16ft so you know at a glance if 4ft tarps fit or not.D.Tibbitt and farmerjohn64 Thank this. -
Don't put your head over your winch bar... EVER! I personally witnessed a guy get knocked into the next week when his hands slipped off his bar and the winch catch floated... He now wears dentures.

Yep thats why i always tighten it with my stomach/midsection over the bar. Especially during the winter u really have to watch where ur footing is at. I have personally slipped on the ice while tightening the bar. The only thing that saved me from relocating my face was that my mid section was over the bar. Knocked me to the ground and knocked the wind out of me for a good 30 seconds. But i still had all my teeth and face bones
