I get loads from IP in Bay Minette, AL. Many loads from them were running late when I first started, but they've been better this week.

This week was a little weird learning a new customer site in Redwood, MS and I just hate driving the bumpy roads in west Mississippi. This is another International Paper location that receives scrap and we either bring back roll stock to Bay Minette or drive back empty. I did the run 2 times. The second time I took a different path in the facility that saved time. The first time the guard said go through further in the back and I wound up waiting for a train moving cars there.

For what it's worth, I find dispatch to be laid back here. I was late returning from Redwood and the only dispatch they had the next day was 6am to Dothan. No way I could make that, but they said just do the best I can.

Starting to run hard which would be okay except they do the schedule kind of weird and it's not consistent. I'm not sure if this is normal for many local driving jobs.

I don't know what I'm doing the next day until about 3 to 4pm when my dispatcher sends me a text message. I could have delivery appointments from 6am to 12am about 4 to 5 hours away.

I dunno maybe I just need to get used to it or adjust to it, but if the delivery times were more regular or I had more notice it would be easier.

Also, I find the Alabama or Georgia deliveries for me are easier since it's a lot of I-10 and I-65. Everytime I go to Mississippi it's mostly on state routes.

I've had weeks where i ran 3k miles in a day cab, all within five days. We get our dispatch the same way around 5pm threw text.

I'm not getting much more than 2k a week. I'm taking home close to $800 a week NET.

For what it's worth, Bay Minette is a low cost of living area away from Mobile, so that kind of pay while being home everyday is okay.

Otherwise, my schedule fluctuates a lot so I have mixed feelings on that. Some days I deliver close to noon while others I deliver 5am, 3am, or 1am. This might be easier to deal with if I had more notice, but I guess I need to just go to bed asap after work and wake up to whatever Text Message dispatch I get.

Otherwise, I'm told I'm getting a newer truck in a week. I sure hope it has a better suspension for the awful Mississipp roads.

I guess at this point with the Virus advancing, I feel lucky to have this job even with my nitpicks. I'm glad my dispatcher is still keeping a laid back attitude during this Covid19 mess.

Even though I'm home daily, I have a sleeper cab. I asked if I could move into the truck and idle to Socially Distance and it's no problem. I'm going ahead and living in the truck temporarily while I apartment shop online.

I also helps they upgraded me to a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia with decent space and cabinets. My first truck was a Volvo with beatup cabinets.

Still concerned about the Virus and irritated that it's still business as usual at the customer locations.

When I go to Dothan, AL I have to pass through the employee lunch room to get to the clerk to sign my bills for example. Most of the better customer sites at least I just talk to the security guard and I wish it was that way for all sites.

Just venting I guess. This virus freaks me out.

I'm also frustrated my schedule gets jerked around a lot more recently. I'm not sure if that's from erratic freight available or what.

Were you in Dothan yesterday or the day before? I have been there the last 3 or 4 days (last night, it was after midnight before I got there). I'm reasonably certain I've seen a new model Cascadia in Jack and/or Dothan.

This job is getting even more erratic if that's possible. When I started out it basic just out and back; now they're trying to cram in backhauls and multistops and often we have to go out of our way to get the backhauls and waste time with a Dollar General in Marianna, FL.

Suddenly, my Monday dispatch is 716 miles. I mean the job was described as home "Most Days" but still there has really been no discussion about what's going on or what expectations are and if this job is going to chip away at my weekend. I mean before this, I was easily home daily and it's starting to feel like the equivalent of a home weekly workload is about to get dumped on me.

The way this place is running starts putting me in a position of abusing my PC time or the 16hr rule.

On the plus side, the dispatcher is still laid back, so it helps to not have drama on top of this, but I need to have a talk with him about WTF is going on.

EDIT: Well, I'm looking at the latest Covid19 map and guessing White Oak wants to pull in money while they can in case there is a lockdown or this gets into the Tyson plants or other farms we deliver to. This sucks. I guess I just need to decide how to deal with it and maybe I should just focus on making money to while I can. :(
