Thank you. I was just trying to get a better understanding about how my tractor weight is going to affect my maximum load while pulling a 53 ft dry van.

It's unfortunate that this thread has devolved into a truck show and flexing about how light people's combinations are.

I was only trying to figure out if my tractor is unusually heavy at about 20500 lbs with all of my gear and full of fuel.

    Thank you

    Coffey Thanks this.

your truck 20,500 and a normal van should be around 35,000-36,000... that's around 44,000 lb. load depending on the trailer...

    Coffey and Edjahman Thank this.

So does that severely limit the amount of available loads I can haul or is there normally quite a bit of lighter and much lighter loads?

I coming from tanker work where we just loaded on a scale and it didn't matter because you just loaded to about 80K.

From what I understand, brokers often put the maximum weight and it's not always indicative of the real weight?

    Thank you

With a 2020 ultra loft with tripac apu and a 2020 utility reefer trailer I scale about 35500 full of fuel with all of my stuff my fat behind and a 102 pound dog in the truck.

I routinely haul beer loads over 44k with full tanks and can scale 45 with half full tanks.

Except for shippers that I scale in at I rarely load with full tanks. Gives me a bit of wiggle room on the weights in case the shipper messed up.

some brokers know to the pound what the weigh is, some will list more because IT COULD BE.... remember pulling van you don't get paid by the pound... I myself like to keep it under 35,000...

40,000 V 20,000 is .06-.10 difference in fuel cost per mile
