That was the last thing I got wrote up for. One of MD’s finest saw my hazmat placards, salivated over the chance to ding somebody for a hazmat violation, and couldn’t find one.

Out then came the “chafed air line” card.

Just for future reference. Two straps are required by the FMCSA on the front row of pallets if it’s not against the bulkhead (you don’t have a bulkhead). Two straps on the back row is a good idea, but not actually a legal requirement.

BINGO! My view exactly. @farmerjohn64 I read through your other thread and was gonna chime in but that one got a little played out...
You're always better off spending a little (or a lot) extra time securing your load in the yard so you don't find yourself having to stop on the side of a BUSY highway, trying to fix something on your load that has shifted...
(don't ask me how I know this...)

I'm pretty sure that @booley is the only driver ever who has had to fix his shifted load on the side of a busy highway. The rest of us, me including would never, never i say, have to do such a thing. :)

Also on the note of who they inspect and why. One day sitting in a portable getting a level 1. (nice enough guy, it's part of the job). i asked him who he picked to get inspected. Now this was a big surprise portable. (Dotsero on I70. Just before Glenwood Canyon, it's a huge parking lot probably had 20 teams inspecting and weighing and it's a 100 miles or more to go around, if you knew it was there, it's a mighty sneaky spot). You would roll in, they would either direct you to weigh or not and then you would roll down the side and either an inspector would waive you in or you'd just go thru. I went out loaded, no inspection, come back empty, "come on in here sir"
    crap

Anyway, the trucks are rolling by and i ask him how he picks. So he said "well, some piece of junk with stuff falling off, yeah, he's coming in, we're going to have a good time, but in general, like see that Volvo there. it's clean, new and with all those fairings it's a pain to get underneath. But see, like yours is clean but it's way up high (Pete 379) and it's easy to get around underneath".

so, there you go, direct from The Man.

2 straps in the 1st 4ft is required in Tx. The way I like to strap is 2 within 2ft of each other at the front, then every 8 or so feet back, till I hit the end. Sometimes I'll put 2 straps about 2ft apart in the center depending on what Im hauling, like steel or rebar. Its not needed but that extra securement in the center makes me feel better.
