CB Radio Recommendations for Company Driver

If your just interested in road reports, a Uniden 68 or a Cobra 25 radio works great. I've heard that some of the Uniden 980's have had issues with the displays going dim. You didn't say what truck you are driving, but there are threads on this forum you can search for, that gives valuable information on antenna installation.

 

A Uniden or President is a safe bet. Good features, they remember their settings when power is disconnected, and better stock microphones than Cobra or Galaxy.

 

Uniden PC78LTX. Nice radio and cheaper than a Cobra 29. I have one, untouched, it does an fine job. Was $79.99 at T/A and after using my points cost me $20! Added benefit is you can use it with stock antenna system on Company truck and not hurt it, unless the system is totally messed up. Should fit in any newer truck.

Stryker 447 is your best bet. Get a good radio and be done with it. It has a small foot print and will fit in the small hole of a T680 as well.

 

That's kinda like putting a newly licensed driver in a Corvette!

Sort of yes, but a good radio too. I run with a 655, and my backup radio is my 447. Both radios have built in SWR meters. Both of my Strykers have saved me a lot of time with issues down the road. It is amazing the amount of skip base station talk I hear.

Isn't the Uniden a solid state radio, as in no way to peak and tune it too ??

 

Wow any radio will work, the problem is what do you do about the antenna?

Do you use a wire out the window?

Pretty much a crap shoot when you are a company driver.

These fancy radios won't do a thing unless the antenna is fixed up right.

 

Radio can be mounted in alot of places other than factory position w/o drilling holes....Gotta be creative with exsisting bolts..
On these mew trucks,Ant type,length,mount position ect means everything...
All the body styles like the petes n cascadias half to have a special mirror mount bracket,somewhat unique coax routeing..
Old classics that have all the cross members in the mirror bracks are the best....
No matter what they all need work of some sorts..
So if you want to just hear a mi or two down the road,save your time and $ and stick with whats in the truck....You want more its gonna cost $,time,study and a good tech to ramp up the radio so that its better than stock....

 

I do believe that you can easily install anything on your truck and should work perfectly. For example I installed such a radio on my Ford Truck and everything works just fine.
