    Toaster oven?

1200 watts of electricity to run it, if it is a small one.

Inductive load, so be careful what inverter you buy.

At Pilot they have a 12 volt element , plugs into Cigarette socket, or the box is good ,also 12 volt plug in. There are other cooking appliances that are 12 volt

Until you realize your apu has a small alternator that wont keep up with big power items like a microwave. Gotta have the engine rolling 1000-1200rpm to have the main alternator puttimg out full power.

My company won't spring for an APU, but they did finally get us inverters.
They still complain about idle time...

If it is hot I will idle. If I am cooking I will idle.
    No APU, then idle time.

I did the math a few years ago with installing an APU vs idling.
With the time my company keeps trucks it is at a break even point between the two.

When I do get around to buying my own inverter, is this something I should get the shop to install for me, or could I do it myself? Sounds fairly simple, but I don’t wanna step on anyone’s toes so to speak

How do I put this nicely...

You had a difficult time putting air in a tire and you bought a toaster thinking you could plug it into your truck. Probably best for you to talk to the mechanics about putting an inverter in.

I would get the shop to do it for you. We can help if they won’t do it for you - needs to be done right.

    D.Tibbitt and farmerjohn64 Thank this.
