Recommended 5th wheel plate change for my truck?

Check the kingpin on the trailer for wear also.

So yeah, that's definitely the Binkley/Holland FW0001 on a nice hitchcrafters bolt on C&C mounting plate. Used to be the best light duty 5th you could get. From my understanding there really is no adjustability on them. I see 3 good options, but the 3rd might require a new mounting plate..

1-- Get a fw0001 rebuild kit for it, & have it rebuilt.

2-- I can't seem to find the actual part # on this, but it looks like a slightly upgraded model of what you have now. Also the least amount of down time as 4 bolts out, 4 bolts on & your ready to ride again. Just call hitchcrafters & verify that the bolt holes will line up with new vs old.. This is from Hitchcrafters site..


3-- The Holland fw6000. Much larger top plate with higher pin load rating. Might be even more stable if that's what your after.? 22" top plate I think I read.?
Cost looks about twice as much as the new 34k lb deal from hitchcrafters, & it may or may not line up with the holes on your current mounting plate. May be as simple as just drilling new holes..


You are probably right about you kingpin being fine, but never hurts to double check it's tight. If your current 5th is a little sloppy, it could be beating up on the kingpin welds..

 

I would assume a rebuild option would be the most economical if that exists. I have read on other hotshot forums that those lighter duty 5th wheels definitely don’t hold up like the full size ones. Couple of years of hard use and they are worn out.
