Truck driver shot in head on Downtown Connector

"Atlanta Police said David Hood had left South Carolina early Sunday morning. Investigators said around 6:50 a.m. he pulled into the emergency lane and got out of his truck.

Police said 20 minutes later, a driver saw Hood on the ground and called 911.


“What happened in the 20 minutes from the time he stopped the vehicle until we got the 911 call? That's what we're trying to put together,” said Atlanta Police Sergeant Warren Pickard.

Investigators don't know who fired the shot nor do they know why. Police said nothing in the truck appeared to be disturbed, and while his wallet was missing, they're not yet calling it a robbery.

“He still had cash in his pocket and his cell phone, things of value were still at the scene,” said Pickard.

Police are hoping others who were driving on the downtown connector Sunday morning heard or saw something that can help them solve this case. “Did anyone hear a gunshot? Did anybody see anything out of place? We really need help with this to put the pieces together,” said Pickard.

Police said the driver, David Hood, has a College Park address, but was recently living in South Carolina. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition."
