semi vs hotshot for car hauling

Drive and rest like normal person= semi truck

 

Mini 5 is too heavy for Ram 3500, semi is best.

 

A solid tractor will be much safer , handle the weight better, stop safer , and last way longer than a pick up truck .
You will also have way less DOT enforcement hassles. DOT , especially in NY where I live will
Pull in Hot shot trucks and straight jobs and inspect them far more than a semi truck. I was actually told by a DOT officer that they target them more because they usually can write more tickets on them. Those were his actual words.

Evening, I started 7 years ago with a Silverado 3500 and a three car. I put close to 280,000 on the 3500 and the maintenance cost over the last 2 years has indicated that the truck has reached its end for the weigh it hauls. Still has life, just not with hauling 28,000 on a regular bases.

IMHO, and having 7 years experience, a 3500, any make, is not enough truck for a 4/5 car trailer. I believe a 3 car is pushing the limits of a 3500 each time it goes with a full load of 3.

I've been considering a Class 8 for a couple of years based on the above limits of a pickup. I recently located (about 15 mile from my home) a '05 9200i single axle w/sleeper and 900,000. Had it check over by a certified mechanic and oil analysis to determine it condition. All reports were good. Its now mine. Looking forward to getting on the road and being able to move 4/5 cars with ease. Oh yea, probably saved close to $40,000 on the purchase of the 9200i over that of a 1/2 year old 3500. The saving should help to buy a fairly nice 4/5 car trailer.

If you haven't picked up on it by now, get yourself a class 8/semi. Leave the 3500 on the lot. Tks

 

For me its one to 3 "cars" pickup tk, now if you are hauling big SUV and tks, I would go just 2 on the pu, anything else up to 6 cars, single axle semi, anything north of there, tandem axle semi, just what I see,know,learned?

 

I just don't think a pickup is built for 120 thousand miles a year pulling weight.
