Not all, Dayton Freight will hire drivers.
They do hire dock hands at some of the larger facilities, and they used to have a ‘dock worker to driver’ program. Not sure about now.
The years I worked there, if they needed a driver, they hired a driver. -
Some terminals at Estes are hiring LTL drivers. Need 1 year experience ( now required by safety) and all endorsements. Check out their hiring site for details.

I have 8 months with CRST from 11 years ago and the rest is city bus for 15 years.

My outfit put me right in a truck pulling pups at night. I had 4-5 years experience by then though.

Google is your friend. Go check out the listings and requirements. If in doubt, apply anyways.

Sounds like you just want to drive. Well don’t apply for City P&d involves unloading with pallet jacks. Position you want is Linehaul. Companies like FedEx Freight, XPO, UPSFreight doesn’t matter how many years trucking you’ll start off with a short run and mostly work the dock til you build up seniority. Places like Old Dominion, Estes, YRC, R&L, Saia, YRC regionals hardly (not sure on holland) or have no dock work for linehaul. I started my LTL career with 6 years of other CDL experience and i was driving day 1 no dock work. I’ve been in LTL for almost 8 years two different companies and been on a forklift maybe 5 times in 8 years. If you are currently using your CDL won’t hurt to ask and go ahead and apply. I know my company when we were slammed In 18 was training people to pull doubles off the street. They were hiring drivers for linehaul with no doubles experience. But things now might change depends on how desperate the company is for drivers.

Depends on the terminal and the exact run .. I know it sounds funny but different terminals can be run totally different within the same company
I know night time line haul guys that have shorter runs that will load the trailers for the p&d daytime guys ....And I know p&d drivers that may load picked up freight onto transfer trailers if they have time ..
Some runs you just don't have time to do dock work but it's expected . Your terminal will go over all that before you're hired -
Most R&L you will never do any dock work as Linehaul or P&D driver. As city P&D, other than fixing your peddle run or pallet jacking at a delivery you don't do dockwork. Only drivers that drive and do dockwork are combo drivers and they are not very common.
Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
