So I just had my first DOT inspection sense the ELD mandate. I passed no issues but it raised my brow. When the enforcement officer asked for my logs ( KeepTruckin ) he wanted to send the logs in, problem was the way he wanted to send it wasn’t there. He said I wasn’t in ELD mode, not true as I checked before I left and it was. But he claimed I must have a pre-2000 motor and handed the phone back and continued the inspection. So my question is does DOT have a way of telling in a legitimate fashion of the manufactured year of the motor? I know my motor is newer than 2000.

A quick look at the tag on the engine tells you when it was built, maybe it was just too much work to check today in the heat.

Ahh I never thought of that. Most newer motors have them but I do know my motor doesn’t have one. Blew off it or something. I have it wrote down in the jocky box tho.

    "must have a pre-2000 motor"

Translation: I can't figure it out, not going to look stupid by admitting it, sure as heck not going to let my boss find out I don't know what I'm supposed to know, so today is your lucky day, I'm going to pretend it's not there....

Do u have an "inspection mode" on ur logs ? Whenever getting inspected thats the mode u need to put it in. Because it only gives them the required information. Otherwise they can look at all kinds of ####

I pulled my phone out put it in Inspection mode , walked the officer through the log and showed him how it works . He said wow you know the ends and outs of this thing . Passed Inspection , he did minimal inspection and sent me on my way. Keeptruckin is pretty good.

The problem might be that he wanted them sent thru the dot web site to his particular dot inspector ID # ?
As far as the rule goes there are three ways to transfer logs.
1 A transfer from your device to the dot web site to their dot inspector ID# (This is their easiest and go to method)
2 thru a usb encrypted device supplied by the dot inspector
3 thru a secure Bluetooth connection supplied by the dot officer
If you don’t have the capability to transfer to the dot site they are required to use one of the other methods.
Most of the dot officials only have the dot web site transfer method to use and no other capability.
With this being said if you are ready and able to transfer via USB or Bluetooth and the DOT official doesn't have the capability to receive it it is totally on them.
When this situation occurs Some officials have been trying to write failure to transfer violations but they are not standing up when challenged.
This information was given to me by our local NYS police commercial enforcement officer here in NY.

Keep voting for more people that tell you the government has to fix it.

All the times that I have been stopped, and the trooper asked to see my logs, I handed him the Qualcomm, and every time they answered ‘that’s ok , I don’t need to see it’.
