Rebuild straight truck with 400K miles or cut my losses?

Far as I know those Paccar engines (the PX series) are just Cummins with Paccar logos on them.

 

Can’t say about nowadays but Cummins had always had a good recon program in the past. Old hands have said many times that they thought the parts and machine work Cummins used on the recon stuff was better than what they built the engines with new. They tended to last longer and run better.
It is a lower cost option for sure and everything is already done. You don’t have to wait an extra week or two for labor or parts to be done for rebuild. No matter what part you are looking for they always seem to never have anything your engine needs in stock and it’s always at least a day away. Lol!

I have had over a million miles on two different straight trucks. Ran fine. Always a gamble though.

 

It really all depends on how you run it.
Most straight trucks end up doing local/ city delivery work. They might not rack up a bunch of miles but they still get beat to death with lots of stop and go traffic, ####ty roads, and astronomical idle time.
For those trucks they are absolutely done at 3-400k. Everything is shot, things just absolutely ####ed and it’s probably pushing 15-20 years old as well.

But if you are hotshotting or running it regionally or at least somewhat over the road then you have a better chance of making it 500k-1 million. But still, medium duty motors are really only rated to 3-500k B50 life, which is the mileage at which half the fleet will on average have required major engine work or a rebuild. The ISC is rated to 350k. For comparison, the ISX is rated to 850k.

 

Hey guys, I have some questions regarding a 2015 m2 106 26ft’er. It’s a 2015 with 350k on the clock from Ryder used truck sales. I’ve run semis in my fleet but never straight trucks. Is the truck dead at the 350k mile mark. They’re willing to asking price was 26k and I’ve got them down to 21k. I’m just afraid of the mileage
