The best Detroit rebuilder in the country only DD parts, except turbo, they use BW. I like the BW 171702
detroit 60 series non egr 12.7 overhaul

I like the BW ( brand new) better than the oem garret,(reman) Cheaper too. I went with the non wastegate BW. I like it, don’t notice any lag, like most claim. Readily available. The Avtek ata cooler is a really nice product, and affordable.

You can get a Mahle Kit, that’s the best kit to get, has original Detroit OEM pistons, Clevite bearings, from Frontier Truck Parts. For about $2100, at least $300-$400 less than the DD kit. I’m happy with the Federal Mogul Kit I used, either kit is good, includes more parts. DD kits don’t include bearings, must be purchased separately with a core deposit, on old bearings. So they can research them, supposedly. FP Kit even had head bolt washers, unlike others. I suggest a little research, and planning. Mahle is the way to go, if you can.

Another thing, you should check the date on the block. Some blocks made before May 98, aren’t drilled for oil squirters. If that’s the case, you can buy drilled rods, to lube the pistons, and keep them cooler.

I don’t know, they always say you need an overhaul. Easy answer. Oil into turbo, mine was doing that bad, cause was worn valve guides. The problem is, once the heads off, due a couple thousand more, maybe three, you can do the bottom half. Depends on what’s needed. Main thing is they do the sleeves right. Counterbores if needed. Otherwise you’ll be doing it again in 300-500k.
