I've been thinking about this alot lately. Was listening to some documentaries and podcasts about how self driving cars and trucks have been developed already.
This made me think will we always have jobs as truck drivers or will we be replaced by machines ? And if the later is to be true how long until that might happen ?
Not intended as a troll topic at all. In the past 50-70 years there's been alot of jobs eliminated or cut down severly due to technological advancements and I'm sure you see stuff about self driving vehicles and remote controlled ones for a while now.
This is still a valid question for drivers just getting started bc were worried about career stability long term
How Long Can We Expect To Drive Before Trucks and Cars are Automated?

Either next year, 5 years, 20 years, or 100 years. Maybe never. There's really no predicting this. Some say that the self driving path they're on is a dead end and will never actually achieve self driving. Other's say it's already solved. I'm in the former camp. Knowing what they call AI these days I think we need a Nikola Tesla to break the mold and take the true path, if there is one. For now I don't worry about it.
Sirscrapntruckalot and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
Until they start talking about automating my moffett and robots loading and strapping my trailer for me, I won’t take the idea very seriously.

Cars? 3-5 years you’ll see self driving
trucks? Fully self driving? At least 20 years, maybe never. -
But DarkKnightTrucker...
your question is a valid one.
The way things are going it won't be 20 years before all the long haul stuff is taken over by automated tech.
Our jobs will consist of a few miles between depot stations and the final destination.
Boring and unsatisfying work, for sure.
And I doubt it will pay as well.
That is, unless, that tech does not pan out in the end.
There are many variables when it comes to trucking. More so than nearly any other field of work.HaglerFan Thanks this. -
