From your post I thought you were at Schneider.
So you don't like Landstar? That was my "mostly likely" just because they only do one thing without a fleet of company trucks to fight with for trailers and freight.

I’m thinking of going to Schneider but I heard they are only getting $3 a mile and I have to pay them %10 of the haul
What a Jip.
Can you recommend a better carrier?86scotty Thanks this. -

Your own authority is not that expensive. And there's really not all that much to it. Fuel discount. I get the same discount as landstar if not then its pretty close. If youre running off landstar loadboards you're running spotarket freight at 35% less. Majority of that crap is double brokered loads. If you can get close to a few brokers there and not have to touch the loadboards youre set. Thats how you succeed at landstar. But thats how you succeed with your own authority as well.
I almost signed up with landstar. Decided to get my own authority. My deciding factors were 2 things. 1st was, the whole reason I want to own a truck was I didn't want to work for someone else anymore. Leasing onto a carrier looked to me like a glorified employee. Youre more free then a normal employee but if you dont follow their rules or hell if they don't like you. Bye. 2nd was the end game goal was to have my own authority anyways. So why delay my future. Just research the hell out of what needs to be done and how to do everything and that's that. Just my 2 cents as I was in your same predicament. Also appled and turned down mercer
***NOTE*** you CAN be successful at landstar. Look at Dave in this thread. He has multiple trucks at landstar so he's gotta be something right -
Landstar requires haz up front. That’s the biggest reason I haven’t given them a try.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I think otter's third load was hazmat, and it paid very well.
This is what I have right now-
D.Tibbitt and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
It’s only $300 to get a MC, it’s just the insurance that’s ~25k a year
I’m down a little bit due to corona, but I’m still over $2.70 a mile last week, don’t really need anyone telling me how to run my truck, the government does enough of that on their own.
i have a little of my own stuff but I also do a lot of work with a local guy who has a few of his own trucks and has had direct customers for years. I get paid within 7 days too.D.Tibbitt, nikmirbre and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Are you with Landstar now? Do you have multiple trucks with them? Im thinking of coming over as well with a few trucks, your thoughts? -
