Detroit bull gear needs changed or rebuilt at 750-800k. Dedec4 and prior. You do not want this to fail.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

I ran mine over 2 million, and it was still good. But I wouldn’t advise it. I waited till I needed another overhaul, and had the radiator done at the same time, since it has to come out anyways. Should have put a fan on, it just started leaking, 25 k on the inframe. You can check them for play, and sometimes hear them making noise, an irregular thumping, I’m told, not worth the chance. Best to change it as part of the inframe. Or you can worry about it, for the next 10 yrs. like I did.
tommymonza, bad-luck and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
When I I inframed my 12.7 with genuine Detroit parts they had made in China stamped on them as well. Tried interstate macbee before that and dropped a liner at around 275k.

Time will tell, seems to be a good kit. Price was also the best, from M&D distributers Houston Tx. $1900, free shipping.Heres an example, of a piston kit I found, says made in USA

We had 30 Harris Western Star gliders with factory Detroit rebuilds in them at the milk hauling company I used to drive for.
They all had a little blow by at 2-400. My buddy I ran with there split a piston 5 miles down the road from the yard running level ground.
I think the motor had 250k on it. I talked to the mechanic at our shop all the time and discussed what happened with the failure .
Hard to tell if it dropped the valve first and cracked the piston or the cracked piston hit the valve.
Krap breaks all the time. My buddy had a couple 1200 horse blower motors built for his Cigarette by a Very reputable shop
2 hours in Lost a motor.
Turned out Crane was getting a bad batch of roller lifters
My buddies motor wasn’t the first or last to suffer from these defective lifters.
I think Krappy manufactured parts are to blame for most failures these days.Rideandrepair and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
