I wnet to an agency to register a truck starting from July. They gave me a form to sign stating that my truck has 7 axles. I told them to correct it, it has 3 axles. They said PennDot started rejecting 3 axle registrations for 80k lbs, they showed me an email they received from them for their last rejected registration which listed what kind of weights they are accepting on a registration card, and for a 3 axle it was 58500 lb (or something around that), to show 80k lbs they have to put 7 axles on the registration.
SMH. I know it has something to do with the axle ratings, the tractor itself cannot gross 80k, but with the trailer it can, because it has 5 axles than. The email they got didn’t list 80k lbs for 5 axles either, it had to be 7 axles to be able to have 80k gross on a registration card.

Anyone run into this issue too?

Not real sure if your agent knows what they are talking about I just registered 5 new tractors in the last month or 2 and all of them are registered 80,000 with 3 or 4 axles. Are you sure they are doing combination, 56,000 would be the straight truck limit in PA.

Are you trying to register gvw like a straight job, or gcvw like a tractor trailer?

    That may be your problem.

    Jacoooooooo Thanks this.

Looking at the temp registration card and it has combo gross 80k listed, no regular gross listed, so I assume they did it as a combo.

    Take a hike

They’re trying to do it as a straight truck/Dump truck with axles, some people don’t know their job, like AR the tag for 80k is a K tag, J tag is less weight.
    Tell them it’s a tractor/trailer
They probably don’t know what combo means.

I called that agency and they are swearing they are registering my tractor as a combo for 80k gross combinatIon. Guess will have to wait if PennDot will issue a plate or what. I was told they are backed up and may use all of 60 days they have to do this.

Bottomline it takes 7 axles to handle the weight, you can register it for 54000 if you want then you cant load past 54,000. No matter how you register it on the form the axles will have to support the weight. Write in 7 and get on with making money. If your door say's 80 on it and you hook to a Pup ( single axle trailer) you can not load 80 gross.

Get your paperwork and money back and go someplace else, they obviously don't know what they are doing
