Since Road Runner created this as a teaching thread, I feel like I should point out a couple of things. Per FMCSR, you need 1 “securement device” For every 10’ of the load plus 1. So a 40’ box needs 5 straps, chains, etc. A 20’ would need 3. ( It’s always plus one to make the driver put 2 straps on, for example, an 8’ bundle of lumber. You have to get under 5’ before you can only use 1 strap). For him to be legal, he has to convince the cop that the gooseneck part of his trailer, or the head board of a normal flatbed is a load securement device. I’ve seen it fall both ways since it would stop the load from going forward, but not in any other direction. Depends on the mood of the cop giving you the random roadside DOT inspection.
The other thing is in the beginning, he said 10-15k. I’ve never seen an empty 40’ box weigh more than 9,300 lbs. and that one had doors on both ends.LtlAnonymous, G13Tomcat and MACK E-6 Thank this. -
Dropped trailer response team. Well... it’s not dropped but sitting on the tandems. Wonder if that’s still considered a “dropped trailer”?
