I'm thinking on upgrading? I have a 2009 international prostar and I'm thinking about buying a newer truck.
What are the pros and cons on a newer Star with a double bunk. I run flatbed out of Boston anywhere east of texas and the Dakotas.
The only reason I'm thinking on up grading is fuel millage currently at 6.2 , millage on truck 750k with no overhauls, and don't want to put 25k into a truck that's worth 15k....
My questions are what are your specs?
What is your MPG?
What does it weigh?
And what are you liking or dislike about your Western Star...
New to me Western star sleeper

I assume you're considering a 5700? It's basically a Cascadia with a different look. So mpg, motor, trans, axles, resale ( worth like 30k after 5 years) the optional 82" sleeper is the only difference as far as I'm aware.
The western stars are heavy though. I talked to a guy with a 5700 and 82" 2018. He claimed he was like over 24k bobtail. Dunno if I believe that though. My 07 4900 is 21k bobtail with a C13.earnies2 Thanks this. -

Im looking at 2016-2018sDave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
If you don't need the 82", I can't imagine it's too heavy. The stars are built tougher though. My 07 with 1.3 on the clock rattles less than a new kw 880 I had like 4 years ago. Like not at all.
If you look at a 16 it would have what, 400k ish? That would be when fleets are getting rid of them and they do that 50k oil change BS. Manufactures may say that is OK but I don't agree. So after like 2-3 years you would be back where you are now.
Unless you can find an O/O truck with records, but that's tough.
Having a star now though. I wouldn't personally buy anything else. I've driven just about everything, I much prefer stars layout. Dash, sleeper, etc. Actual wood cabinets instead of dumb plastic etcLast edited: Jul 25, 2020
