I will tell you what "De-Regulation" did to me as an owner operator. I was pulling telephone cable from Baltimore, Md to Pineville, La. paid me $2300, when I got to Pineville, the man would load empty reels back on me for Norcross , Ga $700. Then "De-Regulation", the $2300 from Baltimore to Pineville went to $1200.

Oh, I was paying 40 cpg for fuel. $15 per hr for mechanical labor on my truck.

I made more money by mistake under regulated trucking than you can make busting your ### now, so glad I retired

JohnBoy must be on hometime, because I somehow wound up with the Volvo Reno load. I've been driving for Abilene for four years now, and the last time I delivered a Volvo Reno load was back when I was still in training, four years ago.

Got the load yesterday afternoon with three hours left on my clock and a 7:00am Tuesday delivery time. Plenty of time to stop in Albuquerque to see my dad for a few hours and also see my son, who is spending the summer with my dad. Since my daughter is still in the truck with me, it would be a little family reunion. Called dad to let him know we'd be there on Saturday.

Volvo had other ideas apparently. Got a call late in the evening from night dispatch informing me that the delivery time had been moved up a day and is now due 7:00am Monday.

So now instead of a nice leisurely drive to Reno with an opportunity to see my folks, it's gonna be pedal-to-the-metal for the full 11, three days in a row, in order to make on-time delivery.

It's a drop, and I know from thorough experience that the 7:00am delivery time on the Jacksonville Volvo loads is meaningless in any way that matters. That's just when the receiving office opens for business. But as long as you get it there on the right day while the receiving office is open, nobody much cares if you get it there at 7:00am, 10:00am, or 1:00pm.

But since I've only delivered to Volvo Reno twice four years ago, I don't know if I have the same luxury with them.

Hopefully I can swing by ABQ on the way back.

Absolutely. My arse is dragging. Last pay period was 8300 miles, this one that just paid was 7950. Told them it’s time for a reset, with or without your blessing. So now I’m getting loaded in Springfield Oregon, then dropping in Colton tomorrow to start a reset.

Just make sure it's actually supposed to go to Reno. My last load there I picked up at west Memphis yard, got all the way to Reno and guy said "This is a Maryland load".

Luckily for me I had called dispatch to double check when I noticed the address discrepancy. They said it goes to Reno so that's where I took it.
