I've been unemployed for over 3 years. What will it take to get into a truck school?

    Apply and you'll be accepted.
Do you want a private cdl school or trucking company cdl school?
Your state might pay for private cdl school, since you were unemployed.
    ~
What were you doing while unemployed? You'll be asked this question when applying for jobs.
Where is you location; state and nearest city/town?

    Happyhighvangirl and Eddiec Thank this.

You have nothing to fear from Chinatown.

He is our resident employment guru.

He is asking you for your city and state to be able to give you SPECIFIC suggestions.

Read his older posts.....He's DANG good at it! Good luck!

I lived in Rhode Island all my life. Worked in the medical field over 10 years. Then was in an accident. I couldn't work for a while because of several surgeries. So I took my 401k and hit the road with friends

Finding out how much I love to drive. That is what I want to do for a living. I never had a bad driving record or criminal record. I had an accident in a swimming pool.

    Coffey Thanks this.

OK, you banked some money and traveled.
Several drivers on here have done the same.
Be prepared for a hair follicle drug test and a urine drug test.

Can you afford a private cdl school?

After giving more thought to your situation, I think if it were me, I'd say "retired" vs "unemployed."
You were living on your 401K, so you were retired.
You don't have to reveal anything about the amount in your 401K, just that you were able to retire. No ones business how much remains in your 401K.
Now, you've decided to work another solid 15 or 20 years, then retire for good.

Well, hold on. Chinatown has one mission here, to help people get into trucking, and does a great job doing so,.I , however, am not so optimistic. Do you have any experience at all in a semi, or is it , hey, I love to drive, how hard could it be? I'm known here for taking the defensive, and say unless you know anything about trucking, you're making a big mistake. 50% of new drivers quit within 90 days. I'm not trying to discourage you, ( well, maybe a little) but a lot of folks go into this with no other options, and find out it's not for them, and that's $5-7 grand(?) shot. Make sure this is what you want, schedule a "ride along" if you can. It's long hours alone, drive through holidays, both secular and non-secular, Christmas in a truckstop in Nebraska, crabby shippers, and receivers , tall stories, 4 wheelers out to get you, weather coming up ( winter trucking is a bitxx) deplorable restroom facilities, especially for a woman, and the bottom line, for the 1st year, you'd make more at Subway. It can be a rewarding adventure, but it may take a while, you start at the bottom, with loads the smarter ones refused, where ever you go. Also, any lapse in employment is a red flag these days.Good luck.

@"semi" retired - doubt she'll have any problems adapting; she has wanderlust in her soul.
