For some reason DOT loves my company. Out of 250 or so drivers . We have 15 to 20 inspections per month... im not sure if thats high or not . But i never got inspected in the prior 3 years i drove before this company. All of our safety scores are less than average too... idk i think they like to mess with owner ops . Or call me a conspiracy theorist i think the megas have the dot on the books

So the rules on logging are confusing as fawk. Because eld's cant be faked for the most part, you can't cheat the hos really.

If you roll into a shipper to get loaded, you go on duty and say you're sitting there for 15-30 min waiting on other trucks in front of you, go off duty and hang out. Once they load you and if you really want to log on duty while you strap or tarp, then go ahead. I dont any more because a dot cop can't prove what you were doing during that time. I have places that load and tarp our loads, so why would I log on duty while I sit around posting on the internet, watching netflix or porn, etc. You're not loading and driving 500mi and not logging it like can be done on paper.

Line 4 (ON DUTY NOT DRIVING) is ended when the driver is relieved of duty, (responsibility) of the load. In simple terms, getting into the dock, checking in with BOL's. If you are just sitting and waiting, and no responsibility to the load, you can be OFF DUTY
Correct logging for a paper log. If ELD, keep it in DRIVING while you drive getting in the dock, the ON DUTY NOT DRIVING when you are prepping the load for delivery (BOL, tie downs, opening doors). Just use common sense and it should workout fine.

Technically, you can't. All time at a shipper or receiver is to be on duty, unless your carrier relieves you of responsibility. That's the way the regs are written.

Most DOT cops will not say anything as long as you have a reasonable amount of on duty time logged. But there's the chance you'll catch that one who just has to be a little prick, and he'll make your day go real bad, real quick, or so I've heard from a friend of mine.

The other risk is if your in an accident, the crooks...er, lawyers will be going through those logs looking for anything.

Man, I love to read, always have, just gotta be something I'm interested in. No TV here anymore, got rid of it. I do a lot of catch up in the long winter months, mostly history, studying the war between the states and both WW's, along with the Bible.

I remember one time in high school, nice Spring day, I had the latest issue of Fur-Fish-Game under my English book, was so engrossed in what I was reading in FFG, I never heard the teach call my name. He was a good ####, asked me what I would prefer to be doing right now. Off fishin, I told him. Well, get along then and come back tomorrow. You're kidden right? Nope, go head. Out the door down the hall, run smack dab into the principal. No fishin that day...
