How to tactfully back out of an orientation?

The worst you can do is the truth.

If they can't accept the truth, it's their problem, not yours.

FYI I am not a guy. Dates are just an opportunity to get to know some one FAULTS included. Life is too short to waste time a valuable oxygen on people that don't have the guts, home training, self confidence to BE them selves. I don't know anyone that admires a game player or a liar by omission. When some one lies they have no respect for you or anyone else.

 

2 weeks??? Too long don't owe them anything especially time of your life.. and that is your as in yours... Life. It is valuable even if you waste it its yours

 

Women, can be "less than forthcoming" on a first date also.

 

He just said he accepted, not that he went. As others have posted, be vague, like most companies will be to you. Don't tell them more than they need to hear. Tell them you have thought this over and decided you would not be a good fit. If they push tell them your wife wants you to stay home more. Make someone else the heavy. Your uncle took a turn for the worst and his health is declining. You have to stay around. Etc, etc.

 

Yeah, like wearing makeup is not a lie. Tricks of the trade.

Then there are push-up bras and Spanx etc.

I wouldn't call those or makeup a lie. It's only natural to want to present yourself in the best light possible and very often that involves not telling someone new everything that's "wrong" with you.

Is that lying by ommision?. Ok, I'm fine with that. I would be unemployed for a lot longer than I have been in life if I went into job interviews and told the HR manager exactly why I wanted to work there and not what they wanted to hear.
