I just noticed this on Convoy. They're looking for bids on a 12 week contract, LA to Portland OR, power only. Pick up their loaded trailer in LA, drop in Portland, and return empty trailer to LA. There are 6 loads available per week, so I guess it would take 6 trucks and drivers. Not exactly how all of the details would work, but it's an interesting proposal.

Short answer, yes. When I pulled flatbed the company I worked for had a contract with Home Depot hauling out of the lumber DC in Utah to the stores back up in MT. The way the contract is setup is the Idaho and Montana stores are one deal, so my old boss and a friend of his from Idaho have the contract. The other guy still covers the Idaho stores and my old boss still covers the Montana stores. It’s going on 20 years now they’ve been doing it that way.

How do you figure? The ad says nothing about having the trailer back within 2 days. Convoy has a fleet of trailers for power only loads. With 6 drivers and 6 trucks, you wouldn't need to have the trailer back for 5-6 days after the pick up, and you would have until the following week to either run another load south or take a reset after you drop and hook the empty in Portland. Granted this would only work for O/O's who live on the west coast if they want to be home once a week.

Sounds like a sweet deal. I know a few families that have contracted freight for a couple decades.

Yea it all could work out granted the run paid good. If your truck was paid for, and you didn't really need the money then yea doing 1 load per week would satisfy your bank account.

Any bid would have to pay enough for mileage both ways, and you could use their trailer to haul a load south out of Portland. Like I said, it's an interesting proposal.

Are you going to bid on it?

Maybe, not sure yet. I already have contract freight out of the PNW most weeks, so it could get tricky scheduling my loads to align up with these.

The way I am reading it is, it sounds like you are loaded both ways. Reason being is Convoy didn't state that they could reload you back, and they own the trailer. But I may be wrong but that's the way it sounds.

No, it says that you drop in Portland and hook to an empty for return to LA. It also says that you're free to use the trailer for another load before it gets dropped in LA and you pick up another loaded trailer.
