The P in DSP stands for planetary double reduction.
I believe its DSH and the H is for High performance or high horsepower applications.
Google "Dana Service manual" and it calls out all the meanings for the model numbers. -

The only reason to spec a dsh40 is to satisfy hp/torque requirements for the truck manufacturer if you insist on 600/2050 in a standard road truck application.spsauerland Thanks this. -
