Dispatchers have heard every reason in the book for drivers to be home. Probably half are valid. The funniest I ever heard (while sitting at my dispatchers desk) was a driver calling in saying he was out of hours. Asked where he was, he said he was at the house !

You don’t have to tell them your reason if you’re putting in 2weeks in advance. They just need to know that you need to be home and have some business to handle. I would pullover now put in the hometime now while they’re in the office today, then follow up with a phone call tomorrow. You run your hours but remember the office folk go home in the rush hours. So if you wait till later today. It’ll be the same as putting it in tomorrow at 8am.

You don't have to tell them the reason and I wouldn't if it was for a Doctor appt or something else personal. But in this case telling them the real reason will probably help make sure they get you home. And keep reminding them every couple a days and then every day when it get closer. Make sure you don't take a load that is taking you the wrong direction when time get close either.

Right now 2 weeks out, this is really not a family emergency. It is more like a special hometime request to handle a private family matter. This is all I would tell my company!
