I’m thinking about revamping my pay program in a major way. This is for people who have a minimum of 2 yrs but 5 to 10yrs+ preferred. X endorsement needed, pulling van and some reefer.

How much for company solo driver home weekends?

How much for teams home every other week?

Let’s discuss per mile, guaranteed minimums, whatever you can think of.

New Kenworth and Wabash trailers, top of the line everything. Assume only would be interested in real deal drivers who keep the left door shut and capable of 700+ miles in a day if needed.

What are people like this worth in today’s market? I’m talking what is is enough to make people actually change companies or come off the couch?

Oh yeah, w2. No shady stuff.

Mods.. if this needs moved I understand, but I’m most familiar with the owner op section so posted here. Thx

This isn’t a trick question thread btw. I’m asking very genuinely. Was that for a team driver or solo?

Everyone please answer as detailed and realistic as you can. Also, assume no health care. I’m too small yet for that so the driver wil either need to go without, get on the ol ladies, be a veteran, or go on healthcare.gov

    Worker’s compensation of course though.

    Thanks.

Look man you know as well as I do drivers want $90k per year with 1 year of experience and home every night only working 8 hours a day. I do know a friend of mine is a JB Hunt fleet manager and his account pays guaranteed $1200 per week gross home every other night and off on weekends with ONLY 3 months of experience needed.

Now thats $62k per year pretty much starting as a fresh driver. If you can't afford health care then offer a guaranteed wage and make it $70k per year for solo drivers.

    .54 CPM x 2500 MPW= $1350 Per week, which would be $70,200 per year.

It depends....if you're offering home every week, I could understand paying slightly lower but for your drivers that run hard and do some time on the road, and dont necessarily have to be home on each week, something has to be said about that...running weekends can be a bonus in my mind. In my perfect world, running a month at a time, making at minimum 50 cpm, running around 3k miles weekly, that would do me a lot of justice. If you don't mind me asking, what's the current pay package look like?

700+ miles in a day if needed ? That sounds very high unless your trucks are out west and can run the speed limit.

You could have $1,000 a week minimum guaranteed pay. Then pay for all miles the driver runs over the $1,000 minimum guaranteed pay. So the driver will never make less then $1,000 but if they run the miles they still make more money. If they don't get home for the weekend you pay then $100 extra if they are sitting at truck stop for 34 hour reset.

Thank you for the replies gentlemen.

The current package is $1300 per week guarantee then .54 everything over 2400 miles. Home every weekend. I’d save an average check of $1450 per week. This also includes paid holidays after 3 months, 1 week paid vaca at 6 months, 2 weeks more at 1 yr, and 3 weeks at 2 yrs.

My current drivers are pleased but I’m having ALOT of trouble hiring new drivers.

That is what I’m currently doing. I have something in mind but really want honest unbiased feedback first.

Edit. It’s get home Friday evenings and leave out 2 Sunday afternoons a month and 2 Monday early am’s a month. Trying to prevent burnout. I don’t really have any stay out over the weekend types right now.

Far as miles... by 700 I just mean with a 70 mph truck, I have a few guys that can run 715 to 730 miles per day on the right run. It’s just an example though of folks who get with the program. Not a must.

I’m also interested in teams now as well.
