Another thread on here had me think of this. With CDL schools and the carrier's just rushing everybody through training.

What's the things that you wish you had learned with your trainer?

What would you be sure was the one thing you taught to your trainee if you were a trainer?

The one thing i would teach in training is you arent going to learn anything of importance until u make mistake on the road by urself and have to figure out how to fix them

    1. Slow down and take your time. Don't let anyone rush you.

    2. Use as much room as you can, even if you don't think you need it.

    3. Always take take the easy spot if you can. There will be plenty of times where there is no easy spot.

My trainer was such an idiot, I don't know where to start.

He always had a gotta go gotta go attitude. The second the 10 hour break was up, he would want to be rolling. Never mind the pretrip, nevermind breakfast or shower, gotta roll.

At the end of the day, that mentality won't really get you anywhere but burned out and out of hours.

Slow the f down, take a breath, take a shower, take your time. There's a difference between taking your time and wasting time. It's ok to take your time.

Treat your equipment given to you as if you paid for it. Take care of it and it'll take care of you.

Don't park in the fuel island and take a 30 min break/shower.
