Do any of y’all know about the accident tonight that shut down all west bound lanes of the Cherokee Turnpike in Oklahoma near Locust Grove? We got rerouted and it certainly looked terrible.

Thank you for your reply. When we saw the speed limit was 80 we were surprised and after they rerouted us around what appeared to be a large accident my 23 year old daughter said, “Whoever raised this speed limit is gonna be in trouble.” I feel increasing speed limits while trucks with governors are on roads is very dangerous. Especially for truck drivers. Y’all stay safe out there

The 80 speed limit is not unreasonable. That road is 2 lanes both directions.
Governed trucks usually are passed quickly by others. The problem is inattentive drivers. That expect all traffic to be driving the speed limit.
That road has light traffic, compared to most 4 lane limited access highways. (My experience).

80 is too fast when an animal darts in front of someone and they sadly choose to swerve in an attempt to miss it. I’m thinking that’s what happened in the accident I mentioned. Sadly I learned 3 people lost their lives in a one car accident. I’m thinking it was a roll over (news story I finally saw didn’t know how it happened yet).

I've seen cars crash into posts, trees and parked vehicles at 25mph from animals darting in traffic lanes.
Swerving to miss animals is a mistake at any speed.
Most highway miles are rural. Animals will always be a factor, another is inattentive driving.
With the speed limit at 80 or 70 or 65. Not much difference in a reactive defensive driving moment.

I would say the biggest cause of accidents I've seen has been inattentive driving or some one playing race the .......

And inattentive driving!! Hell my wife is one of the worst!!!! Hands free phone yep covered, but she like most people pay more attention to the d@@@ conversation than the road.

I drove past it as they were putting one out of a 4 wheeler on to a stretcher. Road had some flooding. One car was off in the field to the right side, one was at the front left. Truck jack knifed and one car ran in to the side of the trailer.
It was right at an entrance ramp, looked like someone failed to “yield” to hwy traffic, but that is pure conjecture
