The the tarp can easily flap or move around in the wind, especially in crosswinds at some point, and that will wear a hold in tarps quite quickly. It doesn't take much to wear a hole. If you can lay down an extra tarp over the top before you put down the final tarp it will help a lot. The tarp on top may move around in the wind but it will be moving around on the softer underlaying tarp and not the padding. The underlying tarp won't move around as it's not subject to the wind and will protect the outer tarp. Padding alone only helps so much on loads like that.
Same thing with finished paint on cargo. If you just tarp it it will likely get damaged and wear the paint off, even if you tarp as tight as you can, nobody is perfect and crosswinds will throw a wrench into things.
Maybe there are some discarded tarps at the customer you can pick up to use for patch material. Lowe's and Home Depot usually hav HH-66 vinyl cement you can use to patch the tarp with.Sirscrapntruckalot and farmerjohn64 Thank this. -
I’ve had loads that tore through 3 layers of tarp padding that tri city canvas sells more than a couple times.
I’ve never taken off tarps and put them back on near consignee before. That’s common but dishonest and that’s not how I roll.
If the load looks really bad and you think you will destroy tarps, come to an agreement with broker before you get loaded, at the minimum before you leave shipper. Take pics. It’s also a good idea to have a set of crap tarps for these occasions. I find rarely are these type of loads worth it. -
Looks like a good conestoga load
