One Seattle Seahawks player found out the hard way that his team is taking the coronavirus precautions seriously.
Cornerback Kemah Siverand, a rookie who played college football at Texas A&M and Oklahoma State, was cut on Tuesday, and the NFL Network reported on Thursday that sources said the decision was made after video footage showed Siverand trying to sneak a woman, who was wearing team gear to disguise herself, into the team hotel.
Tom Pelissero, a reporter for the NFL Network, said in a tweet that he was told the attempt did not pan out.
NFL teams have implemented strict rules, including minimizing outside contact, as the league hopes to play the upcoming season set to begin in less than a month during the pandemic.
"Clear message on the responsibility everyone has in the NFL’s COVID-19 world: Put the team at risk, suffer the consequences," Pelissero tweeted.
A statement released on Tuesday, which announced the Seahawks waived Siverand, made no mention of the reason for his departure.
