It probably does shine in situations like that. However, the primary issue is the excessive amount of nuisance alarm/activations.
What blows my mind is that in other industries there are studies going back 20 years that demonstrate the safety risks of nuisance alarms.. and yet that's somehow acceptable in trucking, and the government/ tech companies want to mandate that.

Edit: wanted to clarify that I am primarily talking about bendix, since that seems to be most common system currently.. no experience with freightliner's in house system.

If everything was perfect then we would never see accidents. It's like ABS the computers can do a better job then a person. If they can build a computer that can help the driver. It has the potential to avoid an accident. They also seem to put these systems on trucks before they are really good. Sounds like the Bendix systems don't have the computer power to really do the job. Freightliner just beeps at driver. It doesn't pickup bridge shadows or guardrails or orange barrels or cars or trucks parked on the shoulder.

I'm not sure I would want Lane Departure system. That buzzing sound would get very annoying. Our roads are so bad with lane markings seems like the system would be going off all the time.

I just got a new truck and it has an “economy coast” feature. Almost any over pass or small down grade will put it in that mode...you could be running 65 at the top of the hill and 61 at the bottom.
The only way to override the “coast” feature is to step on the pedal. We’re restricted to 62 on the pedal so you end up losing time even if there is no traffic around you.

    And we are off.
Nothing illegal about the ''spinner'' on that truck.

Won’t need drivers to much longer. I say within 10 years the number of drivers will be cut in half so enjoy yourself for now , it will all be gone soon enough.

With the way these units are operating now, I have serious doubt of that. By the time driverless trucks become a viable option, I'll be ready for retirement.
