No IRP/IFTA, under 26,001 State specific permits

Lite Bug thus the name. Running under 26 since 2008. Leased on with a guy starting out and he was running under 26. I was in similar situation as you are and all I needed was a trailer to get started. I ran for about a year and realized I needed my own numbers as was running all over the country not keeping enough money. 2008 and economy sinking and he was learning and situation had to change. You on the other hand are seeking intel from this forum and reading everything possible. I never got the HUT and paid something when I carried my daughter in law’s belongings to San Diego when they got married so that is what I was thinking about when I hit the post button. It is hard to give specific information as everyone’s situation is different. What part of the country will you be based out of?

 

In Ohio I don’t need CDL to run under 26

 

I guess I still don’t answer your whole question. I run Ohio and the surrounding states as I provide service for the electrical grid. Moved a transformer to WV today. I hardly stay out overnight any more.

 

You are doing the right things. I see guys like Singlescrewshaker out of Florida and watch what he is doing. I see a lot of people try to make a go at it from Florida failure rate is high, he has stepped up his weight carrying capacity. He also has room to sleep and I believe he picks and chooses what, where, and when he runs. I ran for a few took out my seats and put a mattress in my crewcab with generator, portable A/C clean clothes. Not a lot of room. Time away from family is difficult. There is a guy in California that has been dispatching O/O with authority for a number of years. He has brokers needing freight moved every day. If you wanted to find out if you wanted to do this long term he might be a option. It would be hard to build your business but it could lessen the financial risk of starting out. My opinion focus on the Western part of the country. If you got the NY HUT thing you probably never use it. Find manufacturing companies, fabrication facilities, in your local area for out bound opportunities. Most of this will be handled by brokers. Most freight never gets to the load board. Brokers like using people they can depend on. Shippers like using people they can depend on. Kinda like Banks used to be they would not give you credit unless you had credit and the only way to get credit was to have credit.

 

You will need the NYHUT if you go to NY and New Mexico if you travel through that state you have to buy a permit each time and tell them the exact route you are taking. If I'm not mistaken I think you have to do it in Oregon too but maybe someone can correct that. (I've never gone to OR as HS)
