Are you sure the coax doesn't have something that's sporadically making contact or otherwise faulty? Maybe it faults when it moves in the wrong way?

Great news about the 2W switch. Your little 203P will thank you.

Did the tech do anything else to the radio?

Might be the stud, ant could even have a bad wire wind in it if your still useing the skip..
I have seen my swr suddenly go high at speed then slow down and it was fine..
With the 102 on a 10" riser if my #'s got a lil wonky it was 99.999% of the time a connect point of sorts..
Be it water that dribbled down the ant into the riser,a droplette inside the coax connect point, between ant riser and ant stud or even corrision between the braided wire connect points..
I even noticed an issue that it just wouldnt resonate cause the center pin of the pl259 wasnt getting a good solid connection inside the hollowed out head of the bolt that keeps ant stud tight..My fix for the last issue was to take a strand of copper wire and ball it up to fill the hollow in allen bolt head to fill the gap when the ctr pin of the 259 fits in..
Oh dont be a dumb ### like me and forget dieletic grease and some ant sieze stuff be applied where need be..
Now unless i drill out the lock bolt on my riser i cant adjust my 102 if and when it gets dinged and slapped outta wack..

Definitely not the coax. It's #### near brand new and great care was taken to route away from anything sharp, away from the door (went through a hole in the firewall), and the extra is coiled in a figure-8. Ron couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Ron didn't do anything else to the radio while he was with me. I don't think he'll be doing much else to it besides the switch while he has it.

Where did he hook up the analyser? At the base of the antenna or at the end of the coax near the radio?

Are you using the buit in SWR meter in the radio? Sometimes they are very misleading.

    Both places.

No. I have an external SWR meter.

I think your meter is faulty.

I would stop by another CB shop for a second opinion anyway. As long as they whip out an analyser to check it and not use something anyone can buy at a truck stop that should be good.

If he hooks up near radio side its all good but if he hooks up ant side then in order to tune ant he is useing a different coax if im reading your reply correct..
If so that doesnt determing anything it could add to a simple issue..A different coax can cause different issues..

Unless you mean checking with a multi meter..

I know my analizer can take readings from radio side and ant side..Seen it done but not tried it myself..

I would pull every connect point and chk for moisture..Clean and replace and use coax tape and cover every place that can have water intrusion..
Use some to stop a bridge of water/slush/snow between stud and base of ant bracket..Thats happened to me the odd time in the winter..

Nope. Not faulty. His analyser and my SWR meter were in agreement every time. When it was bad on the analyzer, it was bad on my SWR meter, and vice-versa.

I'm just thinking his swr meter is out of whack. Or maybe the coax has an issue. I don't trust swr meters to be accurate. It's a simple circuit by design but so many manufacturers cut too many corner to make a buck.
