You only have to placard over 1000 lbs of it. And some stuff is weird. We used to deliver pallets of Bic lighters to a gas station supply chain. Because each lighter is so small, it’s dubbed “limited quantity”. Even tho there’s like 1,200 lbs of it.

People without Pre-pass or Drivewyze pass scales all the time...either they overweight, bad equipment or HOS violations. That’s why on TruckerPath App you have comments like:

    - nbh
    - sm only
    - can I run?
    - 2 cc

Not necessarily true. You can have HazMat on board and not have enough to require placards. Or you can have some HazMat that does not require placards for domestic transport, class 9 stuff usually.

I passed a weigh station on I 20 in Georgia today.

The eastbound one coming in from Alabama.

The sign said I must pull in, but there was a line of about 10 trucks that were at a dead stop in the right lane before the exit ramp.

Saw a four wheeler nearly rear end one of the semis before he swerved into the center lane and nearly hit the other car in the center lane.

I thought the whole situation was really dangerous and bypassed the station despite having the “must exit” signal.

I was not chased. I thought trucks were supposed to bypass if the ramp was full?

I’ve tried Drivewyze a couple times, once was a free trial.
I never got a bypass in a month.
I canceled it back 4-5 years ago because I quit getting bypasses and I was with a company that had a good score.

Varies by state. Michigan wants you on the shoulder, have signs saying is much at I75 NB just over the Ohio line

I had a chat with a DOT officer once during a routine level 3 inspection and he said there are a lot of “Karen” types who know nothing of the prepass system who like to call in to report trucks bypassing the scales. Got a good chuckle out of it.

Running heavy, got to pass on the sly. Lot's of looking in the mirror though.

If you've ever been inside, a lot ( a LOT) of DOT guys look like all-you-can-eat-buffet type truck drivers. Do ya think they're gonna waddle out to their car and chase you down, in the middle of fresh donut time? Their fingers are too gooey to use the radios too. Cameras are their only hope.
