So what if I decide to start a dispatch company. What do I have to do? Who pays me? The broker or the carrier?

If your a dispatcher you work for the carrier and the carrier pays you because, you do not have broker authority or insurance. Your nothing more than a Glorified Load Finder.

I would suggest taking a dispatch course, just google "trucking dispatch course" and it will tell you what all you need to do.

But what if I get in trouble or something. And what if it is illegal? How can I ask the fmcsa if dispatchers can work for multiple carrier?

Well if your that afraid of being a dispatcher, then become a broker. Get your broker authority, get some insurance, and get bonded. Then you will be certain that everything is legal.

So im coming up on a year with my own authority, I've used two dispatch services and unless they have a broker MC # themselves and contracts. Its not worth it. But I can definitely see the appeal. Luckily I have a wife sitting at home that can fill out the carrier packets and such for me

    .

Why does the FMCSA not recognize independent dispatchers?

I would say because they are not registered in the system vs. a broker being registered in the system. Plus its a money issue, FMCSA has to have their hands in every pot.

Here is a little article I found that might help you understand more.
