I was hired by a regional food grade and hazmat tanker outfit that pays $7,500 in bonuses over the course of the first year. That bonus is based on tanker experience. So, I'm wondering, how does that bonus compare to the bonus offers that you see out there? I'm not asking about any specific company, just in general. I think $7500 over the course of the first year is not bad at all. Also, we are paid a monthly safety bonus of about $400-$600 if you drive safe, calculated on a points system.

$7500 is a lot! You're lucky you found them. Hopefully they take care of you.

its probably the other way around. some of the best companies dont offer anything at all but a chance to work there. i have found that if a company offers them big bonus. then theres a reason why

Yeah that makes sense. The bigger the bonus, the more desperate they are for drivers, which probably means high turnover.

I got a $7500 sign on bonus paid in my first year. I thought it was awesome, however I know why they paid that. Can't keep drivers where I'm at.

........ Perhaps they "offers them big bonuses" (sic), because they require tanker experience to safely haul their loads. They are willing to pay a hiring bonus for a specific skill set. I've been with this outfit for two months; the equipment is excellent, the schedule is as advertised, and there is no shortage of work. This is the only outfit who made promises at hiring and delivered on said promises. To date, I am very satisfied and happy in this position. And, I get a $7,500 hiring bonus during the first year, plus monthly safety bonuses. BTW, the turnover rate is actually lower than industry average(s).
I did smile when you refered to it as a "big bonus". And that was my question, I was wondering how $7500 compares to other (bonus) offers being made at present in the industry.
