Part-time or 3/4 trucking?

    hey all,

    so I've been driving for 3 years, done two years of regional OTR outta the boston area where I live, and been with UPS Freight for the last year getting home every night. Vans, liftgates, linehaul, pallet jacks, doubles, hazmat, I've done a bit of several different things, and am coming to figure out what I like and what I hate.

    Tbh, I'm starting to hate UPS micromanagement. I make 70k but only need 30k before taxes to live off of since I'm single, and am looking at part-time jobs because of that. Anybody have any suggestions on where to look? 2, 3, or 4 days a week, fairly low stress, consistent, safety-oriented OR 4/5 hours a day work (I'm done fighting with managers about getting broken brake lights fixed or accepting mickey mouse fixes to air leaks).

    I'm willing to physically handle the freight, have all my endorsements except passenger and FAST and TWIC (but can get it), I just really am starting to reconsider the price of those big 1400 paychecks and wanna slow down, settle for less pay and less stress.

    Any suggestions?

    Work for a temp staffing agency that hires cdl drivers.
    Work when you want to.
    Trillium is one and Pro Drivers is another one. There's probably several more in your area.

    Chinatown that ain't a bad suggestion, I'll look into it.

    edit: Roehl has a 1 week on, 1 week off fleet if I remember correctly... not offered in new england.

    A few companies have a flex schedule; if you live near a terminal.
    Doubt you can beat Trillium though.

    I worked for trillium as a OTR floater driver in 2012. I worked when I wanted to and if i didn't want to work that week I told them I was taking a week off. It's about the easiest job I've ever had.

    Well, I wish you a lotta luck, it's been just about every drivers dream, and it rarely works out. Oh sure, they may promise you the moon, but dang, "we just have to get this load, and you're the only one that can do it",,,and you'll be on your way to Wilkes-Berre, Pa. with a load of cheese,,The only thing that even came close to working out, was a seasonal job for like 8-10 weeks, but with that, it was a 8-10 week hustle. Part time rarely works in trucking, trust me, I've tried too.

    I'd quit today. I worked for Fedex for 24 years. I was always afraid to leave that comfort and all those fringe benefits. I'm independent now and love it. Especially since you are single, if you aren't enjoying every day of what you do turn the page. I very seriously doubt you'll have any regrets.

    I think most of the USPS contractors have part time.
    Decent pay and they run around the clock, so should be plenty of options.
